Bishop Grove Wines is a family business. It is genuinely boutique, producing an average of 2000 cases of premium wine per year. Our vineyard produces Chardonnay, Verdelho, Rose, and Shiraz, along with a Verdelho Chardonnay, and Sparkling Shiraz. Only the highest quality grapes are picked by hand. The overall standard of grape is maximised by ensuring the vines aren’t overcrowded or over watered.
Our mission statement can be summarised as follows:
“To grow and use only the highest quality grapes to produce award winning wines.”
Company Background and History
In 1990, after retiring from engineering, Harry Wells planted Bishop Grove Vineyard with Chardonnay, Verdelho, and Shiraz grapes. These grape varieties were, and still are, keenly sought by several winemakers within the Hunter Valley Region. As the vineyard evolved, it was passed through the family, with Harry’s daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Peter Parkinson, producing wines under the Bishop Grove label.
In 2004, Chris Hirst became the new owner of Bishop Grove and hopes to continue the company tradition of a family based business that prides itself on quality wines and service.
Over the years Bishop Grove Wines has established a reputation for producing high quality wines and has been very successful showing its wine at many prestigious wine shows, winning awards with most entries.
We pride ourselves on our exclusivity, and take great measures to ensure all potential points of sale are thoroughly investigated before initiated. Our wines are not available in bottle shops and we can therefore proudly claim exclusiveness as a label. Our niche market position distinguishes us from our competitors throughout NSW, indeed Australia.
